Local children and young people’s mental health service staff have moved into their brand new premises, Orca House, on the Link Business Park in Osbaldwick, just outside of York City Centre.
Built across two floors, the accessible new premises allow more staff to work on site within COVID regulations, whilst also providing increased, high quality space for clinical activity, group work and onsite training.
Commenting on the move, Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust Director of Operations for York, Naomi Lonergan said: “Our services were previously based at Lime Trees on Shipton Road, which served us well over the years, but despite improvements it no longer met our needs and we really needed more space and a better environment for both staff patients and carers.
Annette Maltby, senior project manager adds: “It’s important that we listen to and understand our service users in order to provide a positive experience for them when they visit us. That’s why we involved young people and their parents and carers at every level of the build to make sure that the premises meet their needs and make them feel welcome.
“The engagement we had has been fantastic and I think you can really see this, from the look and feel of the reception area to the name of the building itself, Orca House. It really has been a great experience and I hope people will feel welcome in what is a truly wonderful space.”
TEWV, which provides children and young people’s community mental health services in The Vale of York, worked with Esh Construction on the refurbishment programme.
